9/11/2010

The aim for this lesson was too have the drama plot created so we could get started.
the group came up with different ideas on how we could work :
  • physical theatre
  • abstract
  • show side effects
  • self harm
  • depression
  • suicide
  • single out of friends
  • evidence
  • massive variation of bullying
  • beginning - victim scene
  • victim - parranoia - vocal collage
  • dates
We then discussed the different types of bullying which contain of :
  • verbal
  • exclusion from friends
  • cyberbullying
  • physically
  • mentally
we then discussed how we can put the drama together and plot it.
we decided we would have 5 scenes
  1. verbal abuse
  2. cyber abuse
  3. paranoia
  4. physical
  5. exclusion
we then got into the groups that we wanted to work on. I'm working on the first scene 'verbal abuse' with James, Katie and Joe. Me and James are going to be plastic stuck up bullies, and then katie is the victim and Joe is the victims boyfriend
We are going to make it so we give verbal abuse to katie because we dont understand how she has got a good looking boyfriend.

In our second lesson of this, we discussed the use of narration to be used in our final drama. We also found out we were now performing to year 10 and 11 learning skills lesson in the first week of december.

different ways the class thought we could use narration were :
  • diary entry
  • story telling
  • music
  • poem
  • the people shouting the last bits - back of imagination
  • bully as a narrator
  • newsreport
  • letters
The class then split into two groups. they bullying side and the victim side. I was on the victim side. our group did the idea of a diary entry over the year and a bit that he'd been bullied we thought the parts we'd pull out from the diary where :
  •  day it started
  • getting worse
  • worst part of it
  • excluding herself from life - she cracks thinks what to write as final good bye
  • Final entry
Me and Rachel wrote the first one "the day it started" we wrote

24th November 2007
Dear diary,
as i was walking too school today, thinking it was any other day, the older kids, started throwing things at me and calling me all sorts of horrible names. I ignored them at first, until it happened again on the way home.
the rest of our group worked in pairs. And all wrote their own diary entry, when we'd finished writing them we decided to stand in a line and for the pairs to stand on the opposite side of the line so it worked its way in too the final one. We thought it would be affective if the pairs walked out, the first member of the pair for exmaple me and Rachel were first, i walk out first and say 24th november 2007, Dear Diary, then i pretend to write while rachel read the rest of the entry. We did this on going until we were stood in a triangle possition,
we then performed this to the bullying group, who then showed us what they had been working on.

Today, we found out we where doing the bullying assembly for the highschool. We are doing this assesment with Sarah. We looked at a video clip, about different people who commited suicide : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gE5yINOn4N4

we then discussed in the group how the video made us feel. We came up with :
  • shocking - how short they lived
  • felt quiet/ speechless
  • thought of the family
  • thought how it relates to your own life
  • sympathy
we then looked at a poem called " I am "

I am the person you bullied in school
I am the one who didn't know how to be cool
I am the person you alienated
I am the person you ridiculed and hated

I am the person who sat on their own
I am the person who walked home alone
I am the person you scared every day
I am the person who had nothing to say

I am the person with hurt in their eyes
I am the person you never saw cry
I am the person living alone with their fears
I am the person destroyed by their peers

I am the person who drowned in your scorn
I am the person who wished they hadn't been born
I am the person whose name you don't know
I am the person who just can't let go

I am the person destroyed for 'fun'
I am the person, but not the only one
I am the person who had feelings too
..and I am a person, JUST LIKE YOU!!!
After reading this we discussed how this made us feel :

  • very strong words
  • repetition
  • being treated as an object
The final thing we looked at was a newspaper article. After we read this we shared our thoughts on it:
  • not sensitive
  • blames her for doing it
  • she bullied herself
We then went onto discussing the idea on what we shall perform to the highschool. We first thought about the characters we could use
  • bestfriend
  • boyfriend/girlfriend
  • parents
  • victim
  • bully
we thought of different ways to show whats happened in their lifes
  • diary entry
  • newspaper reading
  • self harming
we then discussed why people commit suicide and how people bully
  • name calling
  • little comments
  • something simialr has happened in the bullies life so basically having revenge
  • cyber
  • mentally
  • physically
As our first starter task to get us to think about the drama we will produce, we were asked to create three still images.
we used the ideas of  a group of friends all happy, then when the bullying happens, then the consequences of it at the end. We showed this in a still image by everyone is laughing and Rachel tells a joke we all laugh then we all walk away from her. Then for too show the bulling James tells a joke and makes the punch line about Rachel we all laugh, but rachel feels really intimidated. Then for the consequence we all turn and go to stab her.
polishing it up we did, Rachel telling a joke and we laugh then fase out and start to laugh at her and we walk into a semi circle, then james tells his joke and rachel goes round the semi circle looks for sympathy but we all say an insult at her and turn our backs, then we turn again and say the insult at her again. Rachel then holds a knife and shouts stop. Then we all crowd round with the knife.
